Polaroid DRM-2001G DVD Recorder

Polaroid has just released a new DVD recorder with a built-in 80GB hard drive with YesDVD technology.

This Model DRM-2001G is being sold through Wal-Mart, among other retailers, and incorporates YesDVD software technology meaning you have software that simplifies editing holywood movies.

YesDVD software, which is enabled by LSI Logic's DoMiNo media processor, uses scene detection software to determine the natural chapter points and find the first clear image in the video segment to represent that chapter. Consumers can quickly create concise and entertaining home videos, including musical backgrounds.

YesDVD technology also allows consumers to insert a finished DVD into a PC to create a DVD case coversheet featuring still shots from various scenes in the program allowing you to do it yourself instead of bringing in your geek neighbour.

The unit also incorporates Principle Solution's TVGuardian foul-language blocking technology that uses closed captions to automatically cut the volume when inappropriate words are spoken in a program.

The DRM-2001G, which carries a $299.99 retail price, also offers progressive-scan video output and will store up to 102 hours of content on its 80GB hard drive. The unit will play back discs recorded in the DVD, DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW formats. It will also play music CDs and JPEG images. It includes a front IEEE-1394 interface for connection to most minDV format camcorders.

High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) DVDR9000H achieves clear sound and picture quality through High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI. By eliminating the conversion to analog signals it delivers perfect picture and sound quality, completely free from noise. HDMI is fully backward-compatible with DVI. Pixel Plus is Phillips first release of their new technology. It utilizes a unique combination of picture improvement techniques to enhance the quality of virtually any video source by adding more detail, depth and clarity to the picture. . The DVB-T digital terrestrial tuner in the DVDR9000H also makes this unit ready for the roll-out of free-to-air DVB-T broadcast services in countries throughout Europe. Coupled with the DVDR9000H’s HDMI interface, this means that DVB-T signals received via a standard TV antenna are recorded in digital quality and can be played on a TV screen, thereby maintaining an unblemished picture quality. Because of the picture enhancement technologies built into the DVDR9000H, such as Pixel Plus and video up-scaling, DVB-T pictures can actually be improved over their standard digital broadcast quality.

Sony RDR-HX510 HDD DVD recorder review

Sony_hdd_dvd_recorder The first thing you notice about Sony’s RDR-HX510 it is the first DVD/HDD combo recorder to be capable of recording to dual layer DVD-R format discs. Similar to other recorders of its breed, the HX510 is compatible with DVD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R and DVD+RW media and CD and CD-R playback. The  hard disk has a average 80GB capacity, allows you to pause live TV very nice , and is written to using high quality 15Mbps recording.

MPEGII compression allows around 6 hours of recording from a DVD-RW disc and there are a variety of quick tools built in to ensure both easy navigation and fast recording. Plus there’s a fast 24x dubbing for transferring data from the HDD to your own media  It has all the usual connectivity (SCART, S-Video and Composite) but not HDMI that is found on more expensive equivalents and is suitable for the forthcoming HDTV era.

Sony RDR-GX210 DVD recorder review

Sony’s recorder  works with DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW discs – that’s four of the five main recordable formats.

this unit a decent source, such as a Freeview signal, and it’ll give
you stunning recordings. On its highest definition setting, the lavish
colours and details in a recording of Rome are almost identical to the
original, but even in lower quality modes a good performance is assured.

options are plentiful, including an iLink port for simple transfer of
your home movies to DVD, and to top it all off the menu system looks
attractive and has clearly laid out options that are easy to follow.

Unlike Sony the similarly priced Panasonic DMR-ES10, Sony’s recorder doesn’t
support DVD-RAM recording, so you can’t watch the start of a show while
the end is still recording. which is a nice option to have The best way
to fast forward those nasty adverts. Still the Sony worth considering.
