Polaroid has just released a new DVD recorder with a built-in 80GB hard drive with YesDVD technology.
This Model DRM-2001G is being sold through Wal-Mart, among other retailers, and incorporates YesDVD software technology meaning you have software that simplifies editing holywood movies.
YesDVD software, which is enabled by LSI Logic's DoMiNo media processor, uses scene detection software to determine the natural chapter points and find the first clear image in the video segment to represent that chapter. Consumers can quickly create concise and entertaining home videos, including musical backgrounds.
YesDVD technology also allows consumers to insert a finished DVD into a PC to create a DVD case coversheet featuring still shots from various scenes in the program allowing you to do it yourself instead of bringing in your geek neighbour.
The unit also incorporates Principle Solution's TVGuardian foul-language blocking technology that uses closed captions to automatically cut the volume when inappropriate words are spoken in a program.
The DRM-2001G, which carries a $299.99 retail price, also offers progressive-scan video output and will store up to 102 hours of content on its 80GB hard drive. The unit will play back discs recorded in the DVD, DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW formats. It will also play music CDs and JPEG images. It includes a front IEEE-1394 interface for connection to most minDV format camcorders.

Just got a Polaroid DRM-2001G and although the manual appears incomplete, the performance is great. I used the Component video input from my HD OTA receiver (an old VOOM receiver) that was receiving an HD network channel and when playing back on my 96" projector screen, the images were very good. Great addition to replace my old VCR needs without Tivo subscriptions and Dishnetwork fees etc. Will be trying with Dish channel component video output soon which will complete the suite.

I bought the Polaroid DRM 2001G from Walmart online. It failed to work, new, out of the box. We got as far as the Polaroid screen to push "set up", and nothing happened. Polaroid tech support tried to send us a new remote, but their data base was screwed up, and they had the wrong remote linked to the 2001G. They sent us two remotes for the wrong unit before they realized and corrected their mistake. We finally got a new remote, which also failed to work. After two months of hassling on the phone, we still had a non-working unit. Fortunately, Walmart came to the rescue, and refunded the entire purchase price, even shipping charges. Kudos to Walmart! I would not recommend this unit, to say the least.

I JUST PURCHASED THE DRM-2001G AND IT IS EXCELLENT, I HAVE'T DONE ALL OF THE FEATHERS, BUT THE HARD DRIVE IS OUT OF SITE. YOU CAN RECORD IN HQ, SP, SP+ AND ETC, I RECORD IN THE SP MODE WHICH WILL RECORD FOR 34 HOURS, YOU CAN PUT YOUR HD RECORDING ON A DVD WHILE YOU ARE WATCHING A PORGRAM. I HAVE NO CONS AS YET, I GOT THE LAST ONE IN STOCK FROM WALMART AND I THOUGHT IT MIGHT NOT WORK BUT I WAS REALLY SUPRISED I WOULD RECOMEND THIS RECORDER IF YOU CAN FIND IT, THE OTHER WALMARTS SAID IT WAS OUT OF STOCK.
